ESG principles are part of every stage of our framework, from supplier onboarding to awarding contracts.

Supplier Applications

Suppliers applying to join our framework must demonstrate strong ESG credentials, including:

Responsible environmental management (reducing resource use, managing waste, sourcing sustainably)
Fair labour practices, diversity, and robust health and safety standards
Ethical conduct, transparency, and effective risk management

More than 90% of our 300+ suppliers are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), showing our commitment to supporting small businesses and keeping our supply chain diverse.

Suppliers are asked to provide supporting evidence — such as ISO 14001 certifications — to demonstrate their commitment. This ensures our customers can work confidently with organisations that share their values and sustainability goals.

Competitions & Supplier Selection

When running competitions or mini-tenders, ESG criteria are built in — covering supplier diversity, energy efficiency, and community engagement. We also champion SMEs and innovators in sustainable tech, helping schools access greener, smarter solutions.

A greener future

11,000+ trees and counting: Through our partnership with Ecologi, we’ve planted more than 11,000 trees — adding more every time a customer accepts a quote or leaves a review. It’s a small action that makes a big difference in offsetting emissions and supporting a greener planet.
Sustainable choices made easy: Our framework promotes energy-efficient products, refurbished and recycled tech, and suppliers with clear net zero goals — helping schools make sustainable decisions that work for their needs and budgets.

Maritime Children's Foundation Case Study

The Maritime Children’s Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that every child within the Maritime Academy Trust can thrive and realise their full potential, irrespective of their background. We focus on delivering and supporting innovative programmes across our schools and communities, particularly for children who most need extra support.

Our current programmes include:

Maritime Strong Foundations: This programme supports families with babies and toddlers to ensure every child gets the best start in life. We know the early years are a vital stage of development and stand ready to support parents to give every child the best possible foundation. The programme offers a range of parenting classes and drop-in sessions, delivered both directly by our schools and in partnership with local support services.
Maritime In The Community: School Community Hubs run by Community Ambassadors bring schools, parents and communities together to collectively support children. Our ambassadors build strong, trusting relationships with families, helping them feel supported and enabling them to create their own peer networks.
Maritime Skills Academy: Weekly Saturday academies provide free access to drama, sport, art, cooking, robotics and other activities for children, focusing on those who might not otherwise have these opportunities.

The £1,000 donation enabled 50 children to take part in cooking sessions over two terms at our Skills Academy. The children loved each session and were amazed that they could create dishes like cinnamon muffins or tomato pinwheels with minimal ingredients. These sessions gave children experiences they might not have had at home, including trying foods they hadn’t tasted before or were reluctant to try.
