Summary
Welcome to the WCL (UK) carbon policy (“Carbon Policy”).
Everything ICT is the trading name of WCL (UK) Limited.
WCL (UK) is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across its UK operations by 2050 at the latest, in line with UK government policy and PPN 06/21 requirements. As a fully remote professional services firm with approximately 25 FTEs, no offices, no company vehicles, and a public-transport-first travel policy, our policy focuses on minimising Scope 3 emissions from homeworking and business travel while expanding measurement of purchased goods/services and waste.
Scope and Objectives
This policy covers all emissions under the GHG Protocol: Scope 1 (direct, currently zero), Scope 2 (indirect energy, currently zero due to no offices), and relevant Scope 3 categories (homeworking, business travel, purchased goods/services, waste, and upstream transport).
Key objectives include:
- Maintain annual emissions below 25 tCO₂e through efficiency and behavioural measures.
- Reduce homeworking and travel emissions by 20% by 2030 (from 2024 baseline of 20 tCO₂e).
- Publish and update our Carbon Reduction Plan annually on our website.
Measurement and Reporting
Emissions are calculated using UK government conversion factors, with baselines from 2024 data (homeworking: 8.5 tCO₂e; business travel: 0.8 tCO₂e). Where data is limited, conservative benchmarks apply (e.g., 0.34 tCO₂e/FTE/year for homeworking; 0.06 kgCO₂e/mile for rail). All staff will log travel claims monthly; annual audits refine estimates. Progress is reported in our CRP and reviewed by the board.
Reduction Actions
- Homeworking: Promote green energy tariffs, efficient device use, and video calls to cut ~10% from baseline.
- Travel: Enforce public transport default (rail/bus <50 km/month/FTE average); reimburse car at 0.21 kgCO₂e/mile, train at 0.06 kgCO₂e/mile; cap flights.
- Procurement: Prioritise low-carbon suppliers for IT/cloud services; Track purchased goods emissions; Include requirements on carbon reduction in the competition ITT documents we issue on behalf of customers.
- Waste: Minimise via digital-first operations; recycle IT equipment responsibly.
- Innovation: Pilot carbon tracking tools; engage staff via quarterly updates.
Climate Projects
We also support verified climate projects through our partner Ecologi Ltd, as part of our wider environmental and social value commitments. Through our Everything ICT Ecologi profile, we have funded tree planting, habitat restoration and a portfolio of certified climate projects that avoid and remove greenhouse gas emissions, including reforestation, mangrove restoration and renewable energy initiatives in the UK and internationally. This activity does not replace the need to reduce our own operational emissions; instead, it complements our Carbon Reduction Plan by contributing to global climate mitigation while we work to measure, manage and reduce our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in line with our Net Zero targets.
Governance and Responsibilities
The board reviews and approves this policy, with the Managing Director accountable for delivery. All staff must comply, with training provided yearly. Breaches are reviewed. This policy aligns fully with our ISO 14001 accreditation and will be reviewed annually or earlier if operations change (for example if we were to add a physical office).
